Insurance and Coverage

Insurance Certificates available should your building require proof of liability insurance.

What Is the Mover's Liability For Loss or Damage?
It is important that you fully understand how much the mover is responsible for in the event your goods are lost or damaged. This is governed by the valuation statement on the bill of lading. In most cases, in the event of loss or damage, you will not be entitled to a payment that comes near the value of your goods.

  • Limited Liability

We are happy to provide Limited Liability coverage at no charge to the customer. Under this option maximum limited to $0.60 per pound per article, in event of loss of damage.  We do not offer "Full Value Protection" or "Replacement Cost" coverage.  This ordinarily does not provide protection for your goods. For example, if a lamp weighing four pounds is lost or damage, you will not be able to collect more than $2.40 no matter how valuable the lamp was.

  • You May Provide Your Own Insurance
You may obtain additional insurance through your own insurance agent or broker. (see advertisement bellow)

The average cost for a policy purchased on our site is less than 1% of the value of the goods' value.

Limited Liability - Valuation Coverage

IMPORTANT NOTE: Valuation coverage is not insurance. Valuation is a tariff level of carrier liability in the event of loss or damage of your goods while under due course of transit by LA Movers Inc. This type of coverage is unique to carriers alone and therefore it is important for the customer to understand what valuation does and does not cover.

The coverage afforded above does not apply to:

a)    Act of God (earthquake, flood, tornado, etc.)

b)    Hostile warlike action, or acts arising from riots, civil commotion, strikes, or labor disturbances.

c)     Any article of extraordinary nature of value, Antiques, fine art, painting, statuary, and similar articles, which by their inherent nature cannot be replaced with new articles; or articles whose age or history contribute substantially to their value. This includes, but is not limited to: memorabilia, souvenirs, and collector’s items. Unless a special agreement has been stipulated to do so. Including, but not limited to jewelry, furs, stocks, bonds, cash, antiques, and art collection. Any article of extraordinary nature/value must be identified separately on an inventory that must be included with the bill of lading.

d)    Loss or damage resulting from wear and tear, moths or vermin, dampness or atmosphere or extremes of temperature.

e)     Acts of omissions of the shipper such as neglecting to prepare for time of the move.

f)     Internal electric, LCD/Plasma TV’s or mechanical item, whether packed or unpacked by LA Movers Inc or the shipper.

g)     Loss or damage consisting of breakage to fragile items, such as china, glassware, etc., unless packed by LA Movers Inc or unless caused directly by fire, theft, collision, or overturn or transport vehicle.

h)    LA Movers Inc will not be responsible for any damage to or items within PBO boxes or any press wood furniture.

Unloading Your Goods & Checking For Damage
Upon completion of the delivery, the driver will ask you to sign the Job Completion Release form. Before signing it, be sure that all the damage and any lost articles are noted.  If the driver will not make such notations, make them yourself before signing in the comments section.  Remember, telling the driver about these things is not enough.  Do not sign any delivery papers for the driver until delivery is completed.  When you sign the delivery receipt, you accept your goods in apparent good condition, except as noted on the receipt.

Remember the time spent by you in inspecting your goods at the time of delivery for damage or lost items will be a major factor in collecting for any such loss or damage.
